Work package 5

Pilot projects, feasibility studies

This WP concerns the pilot project telemonitoring and pre-feasibility studies. Its duration is 36 months. TECSOL is the leader of this WP. This WP will be used for the promotion of collective solar thermal systems.

The GSR concept implementation through the installation of telemonitoring system will demonstrate the benefit of this approach.

  • Visits and identification of existing collective installations for pilot sites selection:

  • Some existing solar thermal installations will be visited, in order to select which one could be equipped with telemonitoring system. The selection criterion will be first the installation quality, with a recognised strong economic and social impact. A selection of 5 installations (one per country) will be carried out, on which the telemonitoring equipments will be implemented.
If available, the first registered data will be analysed in order to be explained during the WP 4 training sessions.

  • Implementing a central monitoring unit for each Eastern European country and direct users training

  • The global aim of the telemonitoring system is to show performances and reliability of the installation. The Eastern partners' countries have to be equipped with central processing units (a PC and a modem), able to collect the data. Moreover, to be able to read and exploit correctly the data, a telemonitoring handbook will be elaborated.

  • Implementing pre-feasibility studies on new potential sites

  • These pre-feasibility studies on new potential sites will be achieved with an aim of promoting the GSR concept dissemination in close cooperation with national stakeholders, and especially promoters and financing institutions.
When such installations are existing, the first step will be to identify between 3 and 5 potential sites per Eastern partner country (approximately 100 m˛ per installation). Then, according to the owner's willingness to concretise the project, 2 or 3 will be chosen. The pre-feasibility studies will then be carried out on these 2 or 3 high domestic hot water consumption sites.
The First pre-feasibility study will be led by TECSOL in close cooperation with national experts. The following ones will be realised by national teams with TECSOL support.
An extremely active dissemination of these studies is expected among national and international investors (public or private) in order to favour as concretely as possible investment.
