The Guarantee of Solar Results

  • The Guaranteed Solar Results is a contract between the owner or user of a solar system and an organisation (hereafter referred as the Technical Group) who takes the responsibility for the solar system implementation and the guaranteed solar energy to be supplied.
  • Based on an agreed hot water temperature and consumption level, the contract provides the purchaser, owner or user of the solar system with a guaranteed solar energy supply (kWh/year). In addition it specifies the financial indemnity due to the owner or user if the expected result is not reached.
  • The GSR contract is dedicated to medium and large solar hot water systems, for example in hotels, hospitals, public and private buildings.
  • In order to guarantee the solar results, a telemonitoring system has to be implemented. This allows day to day energy performances analysis using an inexpensive and simple procedure.

  • In order to have a comprehensive global approach of the system, from its design to its implementation and taking into account its running, the Technical Group has to be in charge of the whole process.
  • In order to fulfil the contract requirements, and thanks to the telemonitoring system, the Technical Group will organise adapted and cost efficient maintenance operations. Except for normal running operations, all necessary replacements or modifications for a proper operation of the system will be undertaken by the Technical Group at its own expenses.

A win-win procedure

For the user and even for the Technical Group, GSR quality approach benefits could be summarised as follows :
  • No financial risks as the contract is based on an agreed procedure
  • No breakdown worries as maintenance is a key issue
  • Easy bank loans as the contract clearly takes into account a compensation approach
  • Clear environmental impact evaluation with a potential access to public subsidies.

The Narbonne Ibis hotel example

This 55 m2 solar thermal instal-lation implemented in 2003 in the South part of France has been realised in the framework of a national agreement between the Accor Group and ADEME. This installation operates under a GSR contract procedure and is designed to contribute to the needs of the 64 rooms.
