Background
Sofia Energy Centre (SEC) has been established as a successor of EC (DG XVII) Energy Centre Sofia and it has gained a lot of experience in the field of promotion, dissemination and market penetration of novel EU energy technologies in Bulgaria. During 1992 – 1995 the promotional activities have been carried out in the framework of the Associated Measures of the THERMIE program. In 1996 – 1997 SEC implemented projects under Synergy, Phare and other EU supported programs. For the period 1998 – 1999 SEC was the Co – ordinator of the Consortium FEMOPET Bulgaria under EU JOULE THERMIE Program. In 2000 – 2002 SEC was a coordinator of Consortium Balkan OPET. The main objectives and activities of the FEMOPET Bulgaria and Balkan OPET were focused on promotion and market penetration of modern EU energy technologies by means of performing investigation of local energy market, facilitating contacts and technology and know – how transfer, production of brochures and publications, organization of different event to pro mote and disseminate information on particular clean and efficient technologies. Significant part of OPET activities performed by SEC was directed solar thermal applications promotion in Bulgaria.
SEC participated in FP5 Project Widening the Use of European Solar Thermal Technologies in Mediterranean Countries Following the Successful Model of Greece, in the framework of which a market and technology assessment, bi – lateral meetings, market development campaign, participation in exhibitions and business – to – business contacts were performed.
During its activity period the Company has been involved very successfully in different THERMIE, SYNERGY, PHARE, SAVE, ALTERNER, FP4, FP5, FP6 and Intelligent Energy for Europe projects and actions.

Main objectives:
- To support the implementation of new efficient European energy technologies;
- To stimulate the collaboration with European partners;
- To promote new financial schemes for implementation of RUE and RES;
- To support energy efficiency policy;
- To promote the production and use of clean energy.
Partnerships:
- In the course of activities Sofia Energy Centre works in partnership with state institutions, municipalities, regional authorities, universities, associations, NGO’s, industrial companies, etc. to ensure wider audience for dissemination and promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energies, as well as to obtain feedback on local needs for information and advice.
- In the process of its work under European Commission projects Sofia Energy Centre has established and maintains long – lasting contacts with organizations and companies from all over Europe.
Structure:
In order to ensure that we put our best efforts under each project and task it became necessary to establish a permanent co – ordination team of few highly qualified experts and to involve relevant specialists depending on the specific requirements of the projects.
